Buhari Again.Buhari bans AIT from covering activities - sad for our democracy -Read More

I'm sharing this because people in the media should be a little scared of what happened yesterday. If they can do this to AIT, they can come for the rest of us. And before you know it, we can no longer write what we want. I hope it doesn't come to that. A lawyer shares his opinion. Read below...
Maybe I should attempt to open our eyes just a little to what is actually going on: 'Buhari bans AIT from covering his activities'. This is nothing for you to rejoice about that AIT sponsored hate campaign and so it's a good response. No! It isn't. It is just a true reflection of the 1984 hatred for critics and the press. Indeed, you may repackage a despot, but he is what he is.
I laugh when I remember his words at Chatham house: "so I present to you, a former dictator and a 'born-again' democrat'. Like really? Do you realize that one Cardinal part of this democracy is the freedom of the press?  Perhaps he understands the role of the media in bringing down GEJ and maybe scared of same.

Let me take you back a little, do you know the APC legislators, last year sponsored a bill to control the press? to be specific, social media?  Do you realize that severally as a dictator, Mr. President-Elect called the media, 'a distraction'.

    What then is the lesson?

While I do not subscribe to ANY form of unprofessionalism in the media, this is democracy, you can sue for defamation, except of cos you think they are saying the truth. Further you could prosecute for sedition (that's what I'll do to Sahara reporters if I were GEJ). You do not blacklist the media.  It only starts with AIT and then possibly it will spread to other channels. Then we would have a 'controlled media'.

But then again, let this cloud that is gathered yield us some fruits, 'cos the NextGeneration is patiently waiting to kick all of you out.  Just wait and see!

Orekoya Kids’ Nanny Kidnapper Begs for Forgiveness, Said she thought Kids Belonged to Waje!!!

The nanny, who kidnapped three Orekoya children in the Surulere area of Lagos State, has begged for forgiveness and said her husband, Waheed Kareem, is the mastermind of the kidnap.
While being paraded at the Lagos State Police Command Headquatres in Ikeja, the nanny, who adopted a pseudonym, Mary Akinloye, to deceive the Orekoyas, confessed that her actual name was Funmilayo Adeyemi, a 35-year-old indigene of Osun State. PUNCH Metro reports she said she was contacted for maid jobs through her brother-in-law and his wife, who were always online to track posts.
She said when the police arrested her, she was at a fan repairer’s workshop, adding that her husband saw them taking her away and fled.
Adeyemi said she was a victim of bad marriage, advising parents to always investigate on the kind of man their daughters intended to marry. She appealed to the Orekoya family to forgive her of her wrongs, saying:
“Mummy Damola, don’t be offended at what I have done. This is what bad marriage did to me. I only delivered the message of my husband.”
On how she kidnapped the Orekoya children, she said:
“On Wednesday, their father and mother went to work. I put the little one on my back, while I held the others by the hands, telling them that I wanted to buy them something. We boarded a vehicle to Ojuelegba and from there; I took another bus to Iyana Ipaja and contacted my husband.
I took them home, where they stayed with me in one of the rooms. I bought cereal for the 11-months-old baby; he was always fed with pap at his mother’s place. I gave the others normal food. They always watch cartoon on the television; they never missed home.
My husband told me that he wanted to collect a token from the parents, but the following day, I found out that the kidnappers demanded N15m. I challenged my husband for asking for such a big sum. He said I should shut up because I had already fulfilled my part and that it was time for them to do theirs. Later, I heard in the news that he had reduced it to N13m.”
The 35-year-old said she did not feel any remorse for her action until she saw the victims’ mother weeping on a national television. She said she begged her husband to release the kids.
“But my husband said he would not release the kids until he collected the money. Later, he told me they had paid the money,” she added.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the kidnap gang consisted of four people– Adeyemi’s brother-in-law, Hakeem Kareem; her husband, Waheed Kareem; her sister-in-law, Ajoke Oseni, and herself.
When the police arrested the suspect, a 16-year-old girl, Henrietta Odili, was equally apprehended.
Odili, an indigene of Delta State was said to be living with an uncle in Benin, when she saw a post on OLX that the gang needed a maid.
Odili, a Senior Secondary School pupil, told Punch that she ran away from home to work with the group and she was overwhelmed by the love they showed her.
    She said:

“I met this woman (Adeyemi) through OLX. I was searching for a job online when I saw that she needed a maid and I decided to work with her. When I got to their place in Lagos, they took my phone and said they would return it after one month. But they never did until after two months. When they returned it, they had removed my SIM card. I observed that all their things were done in secrecy.”
Asked if she saw the Orekoya kids when they were kidnapped, she said Adeyemi told her they were children of a popular artiste, Waje.
    She said:
“When she brought the first two kids– Michael and Rapheal – she said they were her family members and were on holiday. She told me that the new boys were Waje’s children and their mother asked her to take care of them. I never suspected I was living with kidnappers.
But yesterday (Wednesday), we went to visit somebody. I just noticed she started running and I ran with her. The police caught up with us and said she was a kidnapper, and I was a suspect.”
The Commissioner of Police said the police got the suspect by tracking her telephone line. He said:
“Upon the rescue of the kids, I gave the directive that she should be arrested. We tracked her down through her phone, using the technological tools at our disposal. We arrested her at Shasha, where the children were rescued.
Initially she denied that she was involved in the kidnap. But eventually she opened up. We are in hot pursuit of others and we will get them soon.”
Aderanti advised parents and guardians not to be in a hurry to employ house helps without doing background checks on them.”
When their correspondent visited the residence of the Orekoyas on Lawanson Road, he met the family in a joyous mood. The children were seen playing around the house.
On their experience, one of the children, Demola, said:
“Our aunty took us to our new house. She gave us bread, indomie and rice. They put us in a bag, like the one they put rice in, and put us inside the car.”
Their mother, Adebisi, said despite the criticism that had trailed her decision to hire a nanny on OLX, she did not think she was wrong. She said by employing a nanny, she was also creating a job.
Their father, Leke, refused to disclose the amount paid to the kidnappers.
Adeyemi told PUNCH Metro that it was the second time she would be abducting kids in the state. She confessed to have been responsible for the kidnap of two kids– Rapheal and Michael – in the Magodo area of Lagos State.
Adeyemi said her husband, four children and she were formerly living in the Ajah area of Lagos State, but relocated to Shasha to evade arrest after kidnapping the Magodo boys.
Adeyemi claimed that the victims’ parents paid N2m, adding that she was paid N30,000 by her husband.

Nicole Benson, who is said to be a student of Greensprings School, Lekki campus, has donated her lunch money and more to the APC. She also wrote an engaging, heartfelt letter to the opposition party. Below is Nicole’s letter, which was addressed to Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola, and the APC.
    Dear APC and governor Fashola,
My name is Nicole Benson. I am 9 years old. The name of my school is Greensprings School lekki campus and I am in year 4 peters. I want to be a doctor when I grow up so that I can take care of people who are sick and dying because they take care of me when I am sick.
Governor fashola and apc I was listening to the radio on my way to school today and I heard that we can send money to you to help you to win the election. My mummy said that I can donate from N100 so that we can help APC to raise the money to win the election and remove president goodluck jonathan so that mr buhari and professor osinbajo can be the new president and assistant president and be able to help nigeria to fight the boko haram people who are killing innocent children and also bring back the chibok girls so that their mummies and daddies can be happy.

Governor Fashola and APC, please don’t you think that N100 is too small? I have the new N100 notes but I am sorry I will not be able to give it to you because I only have one and I want to keep it in my wallet. But I have N5785 that I saved from my lunch money and pocket money and toothfairy money. I know it’s my mummy giving the toothfairy the money to give me because I found my tooth in her wallet last year. and I want to give you all my money that I saved so that you can win in February.
I have N5785 naira and also N8 but the N8 is in coins and it’s only in Shoprite that they gave me so I want to go and spend it there. I wanted to buy my inhaler disk but my daddy has bought another new one for me. I have given my mummy the money and she put it on her card to pay it on your website and she paid it now. I wish I could get more money for you but that will be next week when I get more lunch money from my daddy and toothfairy can’t give me any more money because all my teeth have all grown back. I can still save more money for you and give you in February.
Please help me give some of the money to Mr Ambode too so that he can win Mr Jimmy Agbaje. I like Mr Ambode very much.
I wish you Goodluck not Goodluck Jonathan but best of luck and please you can call my mummy’s number if you need me to send the money I want to save for you.But you will have to give me some time to save it.
Please say hello to Mr Ambode, Mr Buhari and professor Osinbajo for me.”
Recall that one of President Jonathan’s aides, Doyin Okupe, who is known for his verbal attacks on opposition parties, was recently publicly embarrassed by journalists during a media briefing at the presidential villa in Abuja when he said Rtd Gen Mohammad Buhari will not win the forthcoming election.

  •  The Lagos State branch of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) on Saturday suspended its four weeks old strike
The suspension was the outcome of a meeting held between JUSUN executives and stakeholders in the Lagos State justice sector.
The Chairman of the union, Emmanuel Abioye, who confirmed the suspension in a message to the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Mr Ade Ipaye, said the decision was taken in the interest of the state.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Ipaye said Lagos State was already implementing the provisions on autonomy of the judiciary.
” At the meeting with JUSUN, we made it clear that Lagos State already had a Judiciary Self Accounting Law since 1995 which is being implemented to date with the judiciary getting its recurrent vote as first line charge on the Consolidated Revenue Fund once a month.
“We explained that capital fund cannot, however, be transferred monthly as it has to be accumulated and used for many projects programmed for simultaneous implementation.
“Besides projects are better managed by the Ministry of Works which was set up to serve all arms of government.”
NAN reports that the Lagos State High Courts and Magistrate Courts are expected to reopen for business on Feb.2 after being under lock and key for about four weeks.
JUSUN embarked on the nationwide strike on Jan.5 following the non-implementation of the judgment of a Federal High Court in Abuja, granting financial autonomy to the judiciary.
Federal Courts had however reopened for business on Jan. 25 following an undertaken by the Federal Government to implement its Memorandum of Understanding with JUSUN.
